The multi-award-winning musical Chicago is returning to Liverpool as part of its UK and Ireland tour. The show will run from Wednesday, March 24 to Saturday, March 27, 2027, at the Liverpool Empire.
What to Expect
Set in 1920s Chicago, the story follows housewife and nightclub dancer Roxie Hart after she kills her lover when he threatens to leave her. She hires the city's top criminal lawyer, who transforms her trial into a media spectacle as she competes for attention with fellow inmate Velma Kelly.
The musical features music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and choreography in the style of Bob Fosse. Audiences can expect iconic songs including All That Jazz, Cell Block Tango and Razzle Dazzle.
Award-Winning Legacy
Chicago has won six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards and a Grammy Award during its acclaimed run. It is also the longest-running American musical in both Broadway and West End history.
Since its 1996 Broadway revival, the production has been performed in 38 countries and translated into 12 languages. It has been seen by more than 35 million people worldwide, with over 36,000 performances and box office takings exceeding $1.8 billion.
Production Details
Based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, the musical features a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander, and lyrics by Fred Ebb. The 1996 Broadway revival was directed by Walter Bobbie, choreographed by Ann Reinking in the style of Bob Fosse, and produced by Barry and Fran Weissler.
Ticket Information
Tickets for the Liverpool performances go on general sale at 10am on Friday, June 19 and are priced at £18, with the highest going for £65. The return marks another chance for audiences to see one of the world's most successful and celebrated musicals live.
Chicago last came to the Empire in 2022.
