Coronation Street star Charlotte Jordan has revealed details about her new BBC detective drama, The Hairdresser Mysteries, which she describes as an uplifting and life-affirming show. The six-part series, created by Jim Cartwright, has been likened to The Vicar of Dibley and promises a nostalgic nod to the 1970s.
Plot and Cast
The series follows Lily Petal, played by Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones's Diary), a high-end hairdresser who leaves the competitive city scene to buy a small village hairdresser's at the top of a cobbled street. As the hub of the village's secrets, Lily uses her intuitive hairdressing skills to solve local mysteries. Jordan plays Clary Coombs, Lily's intelligent and analytical salon assistant.
Other cast members include Ben Castle-Gibb (You), Sunetra Sarker (Ackley Bridge), Guy Henry (Holby City), and Wendi Peters (Coronation Street).
What to Expect
Jordan, who played Daisy Midgeley on Coronation Street for five years, said: “How uplifting and life-affirming the show is. I think the world has become a little cynical in recent years, so it’s important to have entertainment that brings people together with the aim to uplift and spark joy, even if it's a silly thing that makes you laugh – laugh at us, we welcome it!”
Sally Phillips added: “Sunetra Sarker’s comedy chops. She's not done comedy before. She's absolutely hilarious - never misses a beat. It’s also this mash-up of genres like a cosy crime show meets the Vicar of Dibley, but it’s truly like a televisual jukebox, firing on every cylinder to make you feel good by the end.”
Release Date
The Hairdresser Mysteries will be available to watch on Friday 17 July on BBC One.
