Cameron Diaz traded the bright lights of Hollywood for a relaxed family outing in New York City this week. The celebrated actress, known for iconic roles in 'The Mask' and 'Charlie's Angels', was spotted enjoying a casual day with her husband, Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden, and their young son.
A Casual Day in the Big Apple
The 53-year-old star opted for comfortable, all-black attire, showcasing a more low-key side to her personality. She wore a black puffy jacket with pockets, oversized sweatpants, and a pair of dark-rimmed glasses. Her outfit was accessorised with a leopard-print scarf, a pale grey beanie, and practical combat boots, a world away from typical red-carpet glamour. Diaz was seen holding her mobile phone and taking a moment to chat on the snowy sidewalk.
Her husband, Benji Madden, matched the casual vibe in a heavy black-and-ivory zip-up hoodie, dark slacks, and boots, topped with a bright orange knit cap. He was the one steering the double stroller carrying their son, Cardinal Madden, who was born in early 2024. The seat next to Cardinal in the stroller was empty, with the couple's first child, daughter Raddix, born in late 2019, not seen during this particular outing.
Diaz's Major Hollywood Comeback
This family day comes as Cameron Diaz is firmly back in the Hollywood fold after a lengthy hiatus. She recently returned to the big screen in the Netflix film 'Back in Action' with co-star Jamie Foxx. Diaz has stated that the chance to work with Foxx was a key reason for her return, noting she had turned down other opportunities.
Her comeback is set to continue in a major way. One of her most anticipated upcoming projects is 'Shrek 5', scheduled for release in 2027. The film will see Diaz reprise her role as Princess Fiona, alongside Mike Myers as Shrek and Eddie Murphy as Donkey. Murphy has enthusiastically confirmed his return, even revealing plans for a standalone Donkey movie.
What's Next for the Star?
Beyond the swamp, Diaz's slate is filling up. She is also attached to star in a film titled 'Reenactment' with Benicio del Toro, which is reported to be entering production in Los Angeles soon. Furthermore, she has signed on for a Netflix project called 'Bad Day', directed by Jake Szymanski. Described as a comedic take on the film 'Falling Down', it will shoot in New York and New Jersey later this year.
Despite her busy schedule, Diaz remains non-committal about a permanent return to acting, prioritising her family. "I reserve the right to say no to doing a movie ever again, and I reserve the right to say yes if I decide to," she has said. "I'm just open to whatever makes sense for me and my family at any given moment." The actress, who made her debut opposite Jim Carrey in 1994's 'The Mask', has even hinted she'd be open to a sequel if Carrey was involved.
For now, her New York City stroll with Benji and Cardinal shows a star perfectly content with both her dynamic career and her cherished private life.
