BBC Viewers Fume Over Wimbledon Coverage, Demand Better iPlayer Options

BBC viewers expressed fury on the opening day of Wimbledon 2026 on Monday, June 29, with many taking to social media to complain about the broadcaster's coverage. Isa Guha returned to host the early morning show, but fans were quick to voice familiar grievances over limited viewing options, poor camera quality, and the absence of the red button feature.

Fans Demand More Court Choices on BBC iPlayer

Several viewers criticised the BBC iPlayer for not allowing them to select specific courts. One user posted on X: "Why can't I choose the court I want on BBC iPlayer?" Another complained: "Watching Gill v Jodar on the red button and they switch to another match yet say it's available on iPlayer and BBC2. Surely if you pick an advertised match on iPlayer it's not too much to expect to stick with that match."

A third viewer said: "It's a real pain in the neck that they don't have the red button for Wimbledon so you can choose who you want to watch. You would think BBC would have been better than this!"

Camera Quality and Licence Fee Grievances

Other complaints focused on technical issues. One viewer wrote: "Am I the only one watching Wimbledon right now that thinks the camera quality is poor? I'm watching on BBC Two HD right now and it just looks fuzzy around letters and not clear and sharp." Another declared: "I hate the BBC so much during Wimbledon that I don't pay my Licence for a fortnight."

A further plea was made: "An early plea (which will undoubtedly be ignored). Could we please NOT have adverts for BBC programmes (which we have already watched) during the change overs at #Wimbledon."

Tribute to Carol Kirkwood

At the start of the broadcast, Isa Guha paid tribute to Carol Kirkwood, who will not return to present Wimbledon weather after leaving BBC Breakfast in April. Guha said: "Now, this is normally the time in the show that we head across to Carol Kirkwood for a British weather update, especially here in the sunshine. It would have been great to see her, but after 28 years on BBC Breakfast, Carol has moved on. So, we wish you all the best, Carol. Hopefully you've got your feet up on the sofa with a cup of tea to enjoy the tennis this week."

Guha added: "Of course, there isn't one presenter who could replace Carol, so we're going to have a selection of BBC weather's finest over the two weeks, including today with Matt Taylor."
