The BBC has released a first look trailer for its upcoming psychological thriller The Rapture, a five-part series adapted from Liz Jensen's bestselling novel. The series, filmed in Wales, stars Ruth Madeley and India Amarteifio, the latter known for her breakout role as young Queen Charlotte in Netflix's Bridgerton prequel.
Plot and Setting
Set during a heatwave with protestors on the streets, forensic psychologist Gabs Fox (Madeley) begins a new job at a high-security psychiatric hospital. There she meets 17-year-old Bethany Krall (Amarteifio), who was convicted of murdering her mother but claims she is innocent. Bethany is estranged from her father Leonard, the charismatic leader of an influential religious movement. She tells Gabs she has psychic powers and can predict the future, forcing Gabs to question her beliefs. The central mystery asks: if Bethany didn't kill her mother, who did?

The series is produced by Mammoth Screen, part of ITV Studios, and was made with support from Creative Wales. The cast includes Stephen Campbell Moore (The History Boys, Masters of the Air), Lisa Palfrey (Sex Education, Cobra), Siena Kelly (Black Mirror, Domino Day), Naby Dakhli (House of David, Messiah), Richard Elis (The Pact, Crisis), Dean Rehman (The Kite Runner, Until I Kill You), Robert Rhodes (28 Years Later, House of the Dragon), and Ruth Jones (Gavin & Stacey, Stella).
