The BBC has announced that The Lady Grace Mysteries, a period drama based on the popular children's detective novels, will return for a second series along with a collection of winter specials. The show, which premiered on CBBC and BBC iPlayer earlier this year, has been praised by audiences as "spectacular" and "heaps of fun."
A Tudor Teenage Spy Returns
The series follows Lady Grace Cavendish, the Queen's top secret teenage spy, as she navigates the "glittering yet treacherous world of the Tudor court." Starring Evie Coles as Grace and Rebecca Scott as Queen Elizabeth I, the first series proved popular with viewers. The books were originally written by Patricia Finney, with Sara Volger and Jan Burchett later joining as co-authors.
Series Two Synopsis
A synopsis for the second series reveals: "Grace comes face to face with Mary, Queen of Scots, during a dangerous undercover mission to rescue Sir Francis Drake, only to discover that her feared enemy is a teenager like her. Determined to protect Queen Elizabeth, Grace sets out on a bold mission to unite the two rivals and end their feud once and for all."
Fan Reactions
Fans have taken to social media to express their excitement. One viewer on X (formerly Twitter) called the show "heaps of fun," while another praised its "FAB costumes" and noted that each character has their own colour scheme: "Lady Grace in greens, the Queen in orange/gold, another in purple, one in blue. NICE." On IMDb, a viewer commented: "The Lady Grace Mysteries features stunning cinematography/scenery and has a good cast of primary actors... The show is suspenseful and altogether really cool (implemented with good humour) - sort of reminds me of Enola Holmes, BBC Merlin and BBC Malory Towers all meshed together." On Instagram, one fan simply said, "I love this show," while another called it "spectacular."
What to Expect
The winter specials and second series will continue to blend humour with history, offering a fresh take on the Tudor era for younger audiences. The show has been praised for its engaging storytelling and strong performances, particularly from the cast portraying Queen Elizabeth, Lord Osborne, Lady Sarah, and Lady Grace.
