Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland drew a sell-out crowd on Saturday for its live jousting event, now in its third year. Stunt riders on Spanish horses competed in the castle's west ward, with visitors cheering champions and booing rival knights in an atmosphere described as fantastic.
Visitor and Organiser Reactions
Charlotte Goodman travelled from Hindley, Lancashire, for the event and said it was "worth every mile." She added: "The atmosphere was fantastic, the horses were absolutely magnificent and the action was incredible. There was a lot of laughter as well as excitement; it's one of the best family events we've been to and we'll definitely be back."
Karen Larkin, visitor services manager at Bamburgh Castle, said: "Today's atmosphere has been fabulous with everyone cheering on their side. The jousting arena was buzzing, the sun shone, the knights and their horses were sensational and there was a healthy dose of medieval mischief and merriment. The response from visitors of all ages has been fantastic. It has been a memorable day and we can't wait to do it all again tomorrow."
Sunday Performance Sold Out
Live jousting returns on Sunday, with tickets for the arena fully booked. The action-packed show includes stunts, jousting, sword fights, and medieval drama, all performed by stunt riders on Spanish horses.
