Bam Margera's Limited Role in the Final Jackass Film

Bam Margera, 46, is noticeably absent from promotion of the new and final Jackass film, Jackass: Best and Last. According to reports, he signed a deal to appear only via archive footage and does not feature in any new stunts. The cast and director Jeff Tremaine have expressed support, with Johnny Knoxville telling GQ he spoke to Margera six to eight weeks ago and asked if he wanted to hang out. 'He's not ready. And that's fine. As long as he's thriving and he's healthy, that's all I care about,' Knoxville said. Tremaine added, 'Goddamn, it just makes me miss Bam so much. He's so funny.'

Early Career and Personal Life

Margera was part of the original Jackass lineup when the MTV series premiered on October 1, 2000, alongside Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, and Ryan Dunn. He won fans with his outrageous stunts and appeared in most spin-offs and movies. He married childhood friend Melissa 'Missy' Rothstein in 2007, with the wedding documented in Bam's Unholy Union. The couple divorced in 2012.

Struggles with Addiction and Rehab Stints

In July 2009, Margera was hospitalized after a four-day drinking binge, with his then-wife calling 911. He went to rehab in December 2009 after an intervention but did not complete the program. In 2012, following the death of close friend Ryan Dunn, he said he 'lost control' and was in and out of rehab. He told People Magazine in 2017 that he stopped drinking after waking up in his own vomit and urine. In January 2018, he was arrested for DUI in LA and checked into rehab. He announced a third rehab stint in late 2018 on Instagram, saying, 'Off to alcohol rehab for the 3rd time.'

Jackass Lawsuit and Feud

In 2021, Margera launched legal action after being axed from Jackass Forever for allegedly not abiding by a 'wellness agreement' requiring daily breathalyzer tests, urinalysis, hair follicle tests, and medication under video supervision. He claimed this violated his civil rights and called his termination 'illegal discrimination.' He encouraged fans not to see the film, saying, 'Who the f**k cares if I'm drunk as hell anymore? Jackass has put me through hell on f*****g wheels for a year and a half.' He dropped the lawsuit in April 2022.

Second Divorce and New Marriage

In February 2023, Nicole Boyd filed for divorce after 10 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences and seeking custody of their son Phoenix Wolf. In May 2023, Margera was arrested for being drunk and disorderly at a restaurant, and weeks later placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold. He met his current wife in June 2023 and credited her for his sobriety. He proposed in October 2023, telling US Weekly, 'We're just a really good team. I never had structure before.' The couple married in May 2024. Margera has reportedly been sober since September 2024.

Current Focus and Future

As of 2026, Margera is focusing on skateboarding. He has a structured routine: 'I wake up, I walk the dogs, I stretch, I go to the gym, I go skateboarding.' Despite the feud, the Jackass cast remains supportive. Knoxville said, 'Selfishly, I would love him to be in my life again. But that's on his own time.'
