A 61-year-old woman went to get her hair done, and it knocked 15 years off her, despite the fact that her transformation included going grey. Kaine Vakai, global educator, social media sensation and co-founder of Kaine Vakai Hair Artistry, knows a thing or two when it comes to hair. But at the start of a viral video, which amassed 1.4 million likes, people were holding their breath and wondering how the transformation would make the woman look.
Embracing Natural Grey
She explained that she was sick of dyeing her hair, saying that she'd been growing her colour out since last November and had 'no regrets' so far. But, she did say that she wanted to make growing it out 'faster,' because 'the process is long' and the dye she had in it from a previous hairdresser has 'faded out'. She shared that the colour she'd had it dyed was darker than how it looked at the start of the video, but she wanted to 'embrace the natural' with a 'grey transition'.
The Hairdresser's Plan
Kaine said: 'We're going in and we're going to start embracing our grey. We're gonna try and remove as much of this [dye]. It is a bit of a correction at the same time as well because we do have a really harsh tint line through there,' as he showed her what he meant in the mirror. He said that he'd be able to 'make it look lighter,' and 'start a process so it's going to look better for when it grows out,' and she seemed really excited by that prospect. However, he did say that it might not look 100% good by the time she left the salon, because he didn't know how things were going to turn out, saying that he couldn't 'guarantee' it. But, regardless of this, she seemed keen to start the process.
The Transformation
First off, he trimmed her hair and shaped it around her face to ensure that the cut was as nice as possible before colouring it. She admitted that it hadn't 'been cut in about four months,' but he reassured her that it was okay. When Kaine did the final reveal, she was absolutely gobsmacked, and it looked like she couldn't believe the results herself. She moved closer to the mirror several times, unable to understand that she was looking at her own hair, and it looked absolutely incredible. Kaine held his breath for the verdict as she continued to stare at herself without saying a word to him. 'I love it,' she gushed, as Kaine said: 'Oh my God' in relief. 'F***, that's good,' she continued.
