Jon Hamm returns as Andrew 'Coop' Cooper in the second season of Your Friends & Neighbours, a mischievous US dramedy set in the fictional wealthy enclave of Westport, New York. The show continues to explore the lives of the ultra-rich with a blend of satire and heart, as Coop navigates middle-age malaise through a life of crime.
In season one, Coop was ousted from his hedge fund job and turned to burglary, stealing from his neighbours' grotesquely expensive homes. He forges alliances with housekeeper Elena (Aimee Carrero) and pawnbroker Lu (Randy Danson). Season two picks up with Coop free after being framed for murder, ready to break and enter once more.
The new season introduces themes of ageing, as Coop struggles with a bad back and his ex-wife Mel (Amanda Peet) faces perimenopause and empty nest syndrome. The arrival of brash, super-wealthy Owen (James Marsden) disrupts the Westport ecosystem. Hamm and Peet brilliantly convey the wistful sadness of middle-aged exes bonded by past mistakes.
The show's satirical edge is sharpened by Coop's daughter Tori (Isabel Gravitt), who deliberately flunks her Princeton interview by ranting about capitalism. Your Friends & Neighbours remains a rich dessert of a show, unhealthy but oh so moreish.
