A 61-year-old woman decided to embrace her natural grey hair in a dramatic makeover that left viewers stunned, and she was unable to believe the way she looked.
The Transformation
Kaine Vakai, global educator, social media star and co-founder of Kaine Vakai Hair Artistry, is highly experienced in the world of hair. However, at the beginning of a viral video that garnered 1.4 million likes, viewers were anxiously waiting to see how the woman's transformation would turn out.
She revealed that she was tired of colouring her hair, explaining that she'd been letting her natural colour grow through since last November and had 'no regrets' thus far. However, she did mention wanting to make growing it out 'faster,' as 'the process is long' and the dye applied by a previous hairdresser had 'faded out'.
She noted that the colour she'd previously had was darker than it appeared at the video's opening, but she wanted to 'embrace the natural' with a 'grey transition'.
The Process
Kaine explained: 'We're going in and we're going to start embracing our grey. We're gonna try and remove as much of this [dye]. It is a bit of a correction at the same time as well because we do have a really harsh tint line through there,' as he demonstrated what he meant using the mirror.
He mentioned that he could 'make it look lighter,' and 'start a process so it's going to look better for when it grows out,' which clearly delighted her. However, he cautioned that the final result might not appear perfect when she departed the salon, as he was uncertain how everything would develop, explaining he couldn't 'guarantee' the outcome.
Despite this warning, she appeared eager to begin the transformation. Initially, he trimmed her hair and styled it to frame her face, ensuring the cut looked as flattering as possible before applying colour. She confessed it hadn't 'been cut in about four months,' though he assured her this wasn't a problem.
The Reveal
When Kaine unveiled the final result, she was utterly stunned, appearing unable to comprehend what she was seeing. She approached the mirror repeatedly, struggling to accept she was viewing her own hair, which looked absolutely stunning. Kaine waited anxiously for her reaction as she remained silent, continuing to gaze at her reflection.
'I love it,' she exclaimed, as Kaine responded: 'Oh my God,' with evident relief. 'F***, that's good,' she added.
