Netflix Comedy Production Faces Temporary Setback
Beloved comedian Will Ferrell has been compelled to temporarily halt production on his forthcoming Netflix comedy series after sustaining an injury away from the set. The 58-year-old Step Brothers star experienced the mishap recently, resulting in him being placed 'on the sidelines' according to insider reports.
While sources confirm the incident wasn't serious, entertainment outlet TMZ revealed the injury was significant enough to prevent Ferrell from filming his scheduled scenes this week in Los Angeles. The publication noted that although the exact circumstances and location of the accident remain unclear, the resulting physical issue 'made it impossible for him to shoot the planned material safely or comfortably.'
Star-Studded Cast and Series Details
This new project marks Ferrell's debut television comedy role, where he takes centre stage as fictional golf legend Lonnie 'The Hawk' Hawkins. The as-yet-untitled series will consist of ten episodes and features an impressive ensemble cast.
Joining Ferrell is frequent collaborator Luke Wilson, who plays a rival professional golfer that has previously beaten Ferrell's character twice for the tour championship. The two actors have shared the screen in multiple popular films including Old School (2003) and the Anchorman franchise.
The cast also includes several other notable names:
- Jimmy Tatro as Ferrell's on-screen son Lance, described as an incredible pro golfer in his own right
- Fortune Feimster as Sam, a new caddie who may serve as a good luck charm
- Saturday Night Live alumnus Chris Parnell as Anton, a PGA Tour board member
- Katelyn Tarver as Natalie, a social media influencer engaged to Tatro's character
- David Hornsby and Molly Shannon as romantic interests Radford and Stacy
Ferrell serves as co-executive producer on the project, adding another layer of involvement beyond his acting responsibilities.
Public Reaction and Recent Appearances
Early reception to the series announcement has been somewhat mixed among entertainment followers. On Reddit, one user questioned whether the project was 'just an excuse for these guys to get paid to play golf a la Adam Sandler's vacation movies,' while another commented that golf comedies typically find success when mocking 'golf's inherent elitism,' referencing classics like Caddyshack and Happy Gilmore.
Just last week, on November 8, Ferrell and his wife of 25 years, Viveca Paulin, attended the 2025 Baby2Baby Gala in Los Angeles. The actor debuted a comical blond hairstyle at the event, which appears to be part of his transformation for the golf series.
The couple, who met in 1995 and married five years later, have three sons together: Magnus (21), Mattias (18), and Axel (15).
Production representatives have been contacted for comment regarding the filming delay and Ferrell's condition. Netflix has not yet issued an official statement about the temporary production pause or projected timeline for resuming filming.
