A compelling new drama has premiered on BBC One, promising to captivate audiences with its intricate exploration of family and friendship. Wild Cherry landed on the channel, offering a fresh take on the coming-of-age genre.
What is Wild Cherry About?
This new series delves into the complex world of mother-daughter relationships set against a backdrop of wealth and privilege. The story centres on two close friends, Lorna and Juliet, who reside in the same gated community. Lorna is a self-made entrepreneur, while Juliet comes from a background of inherited wealth.
The drama intensifies when their daughters, Grace and Allegra, become involved in a shocking scandal at their elite private school. This event unleashes a wave of toxic secrets and deception that threatens to destroy the entire community's carefully constructed facade.
According to the official synopsis, "Wild Cherry is coming-of-age drama for both mothers and daughters as they navigate privilege, power and social media." The series examines how the phrase 'like mother like daughter' resonates in a complex world where danger and betrayal lurk beneath the surface of a seemingly perfect town.
Meet the Main Cast
Carmen Ejogo, known for her roles in The Penguin and Your Honour, portrays Lorna. The actress describes her character as retaining a "sense of mystery" while placing significant pressure on her daughter Grace to achieve excellence. Ejogo's previous notable work includes playing Coretta Scott King in Selma and Seraphina Picquery in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Eve Best, celebrated for her portrayal of Princess Rhaenys Targaryen in House of the Dragon, takes on the role of Juliet. Discussing her character's dynamic with daughter Allegra, Eve revealed: "They have a very complicated relationship. Allegra can barely be in the same room frankly, but Juliet is desperate for her love, attention, anything." Best's other credits include Anna Clayton in Lucky Man and Carole Middleton in The Crown.
The younger generation is represented by Imogen Faires as Grace and Amelia May as Allegra. Faires, who previously appeared in Dickensian and Marcella, plays Lorna's daughter Grace. Amelia May portrays Juliet's daughter Allegra, completing the four central characters whose relationships form the emotional core of the series.
Behind the Scenes and Supporting Cast
Adding to the show's intrigue is Nicôle Lecky, who not only stars as Gigi - the community's American life coach - but also penned the series and serves as narrator. Lecky, recognised for her roles in Sweetpea and Death in Paradise, described the challenge of her multiple roles: "Being a showrunner, writing and executive-producing the entire series is already a big role. To make it even more fun (or harder!), I was also acting in the show."
The ensemble cast is further strengthened by several established actors. Sophie Winkleman (Peep Show, Sanditon), James Murray (Masters of the Air, The Crown), and Nathaniel Martello-White (I Hate Suzie, Guerrilla) all feature in supporting roles.
Additional cast members include Jason York (Mood), Isabelle Allen (Les Misérables), Catriona Chandler (Rivals), and Tara Webb (Phoenix Rise), creating a rich tapestry of characters that bring the world of Wild Cherry to life.
With its premiere on November 15, 2025, Wild Cherry represents another quality drama offering from BBC One, exploring timeless themes of family, friendship, and the consequences of secrets in the modern age.
