Wild Cherry, a new coming-of-age drama series, has premiered on BBC One. The show explores mother-daughter dynamics within a gated community, focusing on two close friends: Lorna, a self-made entrepreneur, and Juliet, who comes from inherited wealth. Their daughters, Grace and Allegra, share an equally close bond, but their friendship faces turmoil when the teenagers become embroiled in a shocking scandal at their elite private school, unleashing toxic secrets and deception across the community.
Carmen Ejogo, known for The Penguin and Your Honour, stars as Lorna, while House of the Dragon's Eve Best plays Juliet. Imogen Faires portrays Grace, and Amelia May plays Allegra. The ensemble cast also includes Nicôle Lecky, who wrote the series and appears as Gigi, alongside Sophie Winkleman, James Murray, Nathaniel Martello-White, Jason York, Isabelle Allen, Catriona Chandler, and Tara Webb.
According to the synopsis: 'Wild Cherry is a coming-of-age drama for both mothers and daughters as they navigate privilege, power and social media. 'Like mother like daughter' rings loudly in a complex world, where danger and betrayal is never far from the surface - even in a perfect town.'
Discussing her character Juliet's relationship with her daughter Allegra, Eve Best revealed: 'They have a very complicated relationship. Allegra can barely be in the same room frankly, but Juliet is desperate for her love, attention, anything.' Carmen Ejogo described her character Lorna as retaining a 'sense of mystery' while placing 'a lot of pressure' on daughter Grace to achieve excellence.
Writer and actress Nicôle Lecky, who also narrates the series, said: 'I think maybe it's not as unique anymore, but being a showrunner, writing and executive-producing the entire series is already a big role. To make it even more fun (or harder!), I was also acting in the show, playing Gigi. It's a lot... But I'm so passionate about the story, the show, and the women in the show.'
