The highly anticipated fourth season of The White Lotus has started filming, with the cast unpacking in France. Despite speculation favouring Tanzania, Mexico and the French Alps, filming has commenced on the Côte d'Azur, and unlike the first three seasons, the Emmy-winning series is not setting up in a Four Seasons Resort.
Season four will see a new group of guests during a week of the Cannes Film Festival, exploring a different theme from previous seasons. HBO has confirmed that filming is taking place on the French Riviera, with cameras rolling in Cannes, St Tropez and Monaco, and additional filming in Paris, though the story will remain along the Côte d'Azur.
Doubling as the White Lotus du Cap, the Airelles Château de la Messardière – a chateau built in 1904 – sits on a hill surrounded by umbrella pine trees with superyachts anchored in glistening bays. For the White Lotus Cannes, Hôtel Martinez on Boulevard de la Croisette will take centre stage, renowned for its private beach and celebrity clientele during festival season.
The relocation to Europe for season four follows stints in North America and Asia during the show’s first three seasons. Season one was set in Hawaii at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, season two in Sicily at the San Domenico Palace, Taormina, and season three in Thailand at three Anantara resorts.
