Coronation Street fans saw the debut of Will Driscoll's mother, Mel, this week, played by actress Cindy Humphrey. Mel arrives in Weatherfield after learning about the grooming of her son by his athletics coach, Megan.
Cindy Humphrey is no stranger to television, having appeared in ITV's Liar, BBC soap Doctors, and Maigret. She also played Faith in the 2023 BBC prison drama Time, alongside Siobhan Finneran, Jodie Whittaker, Bella Ramsey, and Sophie Willan.
Will (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) moved to the street last year with his family, including dad Ben (Aaron McCusker), grandmother Maggie (Pauline McLynn), and brother Ollie (Raphael Akuwudike). The grooming storyline has been a major plot, with Megan seemingly getting away with her crimes due to lack of evidence.
Some fans speculate that Mel could be involved in an upcoming murder plot, as Megan is one of five potential victims in a whodunnit twist. The soap will dedicate a week to the death, starting April 27, with a POV episode showing the same day from each victim's perspective.
Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
