Patience Series 2 Filming Locations: York Minster & Belgium
Where Channel 4's Patience Series 2 was filmed

The acclaimed detective drama Patience makes a triumphant return to Channel 4 for its second series, promising more intrigue and action for its loyal viewers. The show, which became the broadcaster's most successful drama of 2025, is back with an extended run of eight episodes, starting on Wednesday, January 7 at 9pm.

Historic York Takes Centre Stage

True to its setting, the majority of the filming for the new series took place in the historic city of York. The narrative continues to follow Ella Maisy Purvis as Patience, working within the City of York Police's criminal records department. This season's plot escalates with a murder mystery that leads investigators into the hallowed halls of York Minster, a killing at the city's renowned railway museum, and a magical trail ending in a dramatic chase through a Hall of Mirrors.

Ella Maisy Purvis expressed her awe at filming inside the iconic cathedral, stating it was "surreal" to have the magnificent building to themselves. She highlighted that the story enveloping the Minster added to the sense of awe and teased that season two is "more hands on" with "a lot more action."

Cast Connections to Yorkshire

For actor Tom Lewis, who plays Patience's romantic interest Elliot Scott, filming in York held a special, personal significance. Having grown up in nearby Leeds, he described York as having an "old-world charm" and shared a fond memory of a quiet evening after filming, sitting on a street eating chips and soaking in the city's simple, magical atmosphere.

An International Detour to Belgium

In an exciting expansion for the second series, production also ventured overseas to Belgium for additional scenes. Tom Lewis was effusive in his praise for the location, noting the kindness of the people, the fantastic food, and the country's "effortless beauty" that consistently presented perfect cinematic backdrops. He jokingly admitted the catering was so good he considered staying permanently.

Newcomer to the cast Jessica Hynes, who plays the new DI Frankie Monroe, also enjoyed the Belgian shoot, remarking on the appealing duality of the people who she found to be both "very serious and silly at the same time."

New Dynamics and Dramatic Developments

Series two introduces fresh challenges for Patience as she navigates a very different management style under her new boss, DI Frankie Monroe. Alongside tackling perplexing crimes in extraordinary settings, love is also in the air as Patience begins a relationship with colleague Elliot Scott. The police department itself gets a shake-up with the arrival of a new PR consultant, ensuring drama both inside and outside the case files.

With its blend of local Yorkshire charm and international flavour, the filming locations for Patience series two perfectly complement the heightened drama and expanded scope of the new episodes. Fans can expect the same unique insight from its protagonist, now set against an even more visually striking and diverse backdrop.
