Warwick Davis has joined the cast of HBO's upcoming television adaptation of the Harry Potter series, according to recent reports. The actor, known for his roles in the original film franchise, will portray a character in the new show, though specific details about his role have not yet been disclosed.
The series, which is set to begin airing during Christmas 2026, will adapt each of J.K. Rowling's seven books into a separate season. Dominic McLaughlin has been cast as the young wizard Harry Potter, with Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton playing his best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger respectively. The trio are largely newcomers, with McLaughlin having previously acted in the Sky comedy 'Grow' alongside Nick Frost, who will play Rubeus Hagrid in the series.
Other major cast members include John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby as Petunia and Vernon Dursley. Paul Whitehouse will play Argus Filch, Luke Thallon is Quirinus Quirrell, Katherine Parkinson portrays Molly Weasley, Lox Pratt is Draco Malfoy, and Johnny Flynn plays Lucius Malfoy.
The series is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner, who also serves as showrunner. Mark Mylod will executive produce and direct multiple episodes. The production is a collaboration between HBO, Brontë Film and TV, and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers including J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman.
