Netflix has confirmed that Virgin River will return for an eighth season, with production scheduled between April and August this year. The show was renewed back in July 2025, prior to the release of season seven.
Season seven premiered on 6 March 2025, and wrapped filming in June 2024. If the same turnaround time applies, season eight could arrive as early as May 2027, though no official release date has been announced.
Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith has revealed that the 10-episode season will begin with a four-month time jump. The storyline will address the outcome of Mel and Jack’s baby surgery, and explore themes of being haunted by the past. Clay will continue his search for his sister, Preacher will receive more focus, and an unexpected romance between Muriel and Everett is planned.
Cast members Marco Grazzini (Mike) and Lauren Hammersley (Charmaine) will not return, although Smith has left the door open for future appearances. Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson are expected to reprise their roles. Smith noted that while season nine has not been officially greenlit, he is not treating season eight as the final run.
