Channel 4's new factual drama, Vengeance: Murder on the Heath, premieres tonight at 9pm, recounting the shocking 2011 'honeytrap murder' of 21-year-old Gagandip Singh. The two-part series explores a deadly love triangle that ended in a brutal killing on Blackheath, London.
Gagandip Singh was beaten, placed in the boot of his sister's Mercedes, and set on fire on Angerstein Lane. A post-mortem revealed he was still alive when the car was ignited and died from inhaling toxic fumes. The crime drew national attention due to the involvement of his friend Mundill Mahil, who lured him to her home.
Mundill had alleged Gagandip attempted to assault her, leading her and friend Harinder 'Ravi' Shoker to plan a confrontation. During the trial, Mundill was described as 'manipulative, vengeful and deceitful'. Harinder received a life sentence with a minimum of 22 years; accomplice Darren Peters was jailed for 12 years for manslaughter; Mundill received six years for GBH with intent.
Writer and director Aysha Rafaele said: 'As a British Asian filmmaker, I am fascinated by real stories from our community... how an accusation of attempted rape led to these young people taking the law into their own hands.' The drama draws from police interviews, text messages, and court documents.
