Prime Video has added the Uma Thurman-starring thriller Pretty Lethal to its streaming library. The film, directed by Vicky Jewson and written by Kate Freund, follows a dysfunctional ballet troupe whose bus breaks down en route to a competition. When armed men target them, they must use their training to fight back.
The cast includes Maddie Ziegler, Lana Condor, Iris Apatow, Millicent Simmonds, and Avantika, with Thurman playing the villain. Michael Culkin and Lydia Leonard also appear.
Critics have given the film mixed reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently holds a 59% score, just one point below the certified fresh threshold. Some praised its blend of silliness and action, with The Blogging Banshee calling it “a perfect blend of silliness and action.” Blu-ray.com described it as “reliable entertainment,” while Slant called it “lean, mean, and feisty.”
However, The Hollywood Reporter criticised it as “a fitfully fun but mostly forgettable distraction,” and RogerEbert.com noted “one banger of an action sequence surrounded by thin characters.”
Director Jewson praised Thurman’s performance, telling People: “She has a wicked sense of humour, and she also brings empathy to the character… I don’t think anyone but someone of Uma’s talent could do that.”
