Sweet Magnolias fans have been eagerly awaiting Season 5, which finally dropped on Netflix more than a year after Season 4 aired. However, viewers quickly noticed that one beloved character is missing: Ty Townsend, played by Carson Rowland.
What Happened to Ty in Season 4?
At the end of Season 4, Ty and Annie Sullivan (Annieliese Judge) had just started officially dating. But their romance hit a snag when Ty was offered the chance to tour Europe with his band. He wanted Annie to come with him, but she turned him down. The season ended on a bittersweet note, leaving their future uncertain.
Is Ty in Season 5 of Sweet Magnolias?
Sadly for fans of the couple, Ty Townsend does not appear in Season 5. He is frequently mentioned by Annie and his mother Maddie Townsend (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), but he never physically appears as he continues his tour in Europe. From the very beginning of the new season, it seems his relationship with Annie is doomed, as he has not returned home since leaving Serenity.
Annie's New Chapter
Annie is also starting a new chapter, heading off to college. It is unclear whether actress Annieliese Judge will return for a potential Season 6.
Why Did Carson Rowland Leave?
While Rowland does not appear in Season 5, it is not confirmed whether he is gone for good or could return if Sweet Magnolias is renewed. Co-star Annieliese Judge expressed her support for Rowland's decision, telling Us Weekly that he had other opportunities she is excited about. She added, "He's a really, really good friend of mine, and so that's something that's really exciting for him and for all of us. We're all still so supportive of him."
