Trigger Point Season 2 Confirmed by ITV

ITV has confirmed that Trigger Point will return for a second season, with Vicky McClure reprising her role as Metropolitan Police explosives officer Lana Washington. The six-part series, created by Line of Duty's Jed Mercurio, premieres on Sunday 28th January at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with episodes airing weekly.

The new season follows Lana as she deals with the fallout from her brother's death in the first series, while facing a new terror campaign targeting London. McClure has described a 'complicated' dynamic between Lana, former flame Thom Youngblood (Mark Stanley) and his current partner Helen Morgan (Natalie Simpson), who joins the cast.

Series newcomer Simpson has warned fans not to get too attached to any character, teasing 'a lot of death' and a 'huge amount of drama' in the new episodes. Returning cast members include Nabil Elouahabi, Eric Shango, Kerry Godliman, Kris Hitchen, and Kevin Eldon, with Julian Ovenden and Tomiwa Edun joining as new characters.

Filming for the second season began in March 2023, following the show's official renewal last year. Writer Daniel Brierley has indicated there is a 'whole world of ideas' for future storylines, while Mercurio has stated the show was designed as a 'returner' from the outset.

The synopsis for the first episode reveals that Lana has just returned from training Ukrainian bomb disposal teams and is giving a routine talk when a bomb attack occurs in the city centre, forcing her to decide if she is ready to return to active duty.
