Traitors star reveals producers listened in on calls with kids

Nick Mohammed has revealed he was allowed just one phone call a day with his children while filming Celebrity Traitors, with a producer listening in on the conversations.

The Ted Lasso actor, 46, reached the final of the BBC reality show's 2025 series, ultimately losing out to traitor Alan Carr.

Strict Rules on Set

Mohammed, who shares sons Finn and Arthur and daughter Annie with his wife, Becka, said the strict rules meant his daily calls home were monitored by the production team.

He told the Table Manners podcast: “I was allowed once a day to FaceTime them [his children], but only with the producers listening into the phone calls.

“Because if anything gets out, the game was over, really.

“So that was the most difficult thing, and not being able to tell them exactly when I would be going because I didn’t know – I could be back in 48 hours, I could be gone in three weeks, which turned out I was.”

Holding Area and Reunion

Mohammed said participants are placed in a “holding area” before they leave the castle every night.

He said: “You didn’t get that much downtime, really. It looks in the programme like you get in those cars and go off, but it’s a more elaborate way out of the castle because they don’t want you to see who’s going in what direction.

“You’re actually in a holding area and dismissed at random, so you have no way of knowing whether someone’s been dismissed early and what that might mean.”

The celebrity cast has kept in touch and held a reunion since filming. Mohammed said: “Jonathan (Ross) organised a reunion, which I sadly couldn’t make.

“We have a WhatsApp group, which is great.

“I’ve seen Joe Marler a fair bit, I’ve seen Claudia Winkleman, and there are other people I’ve seen too.”

Co-Star's Decline

Mohammed’s Ted Lasso co-star Hannah Waddingham revealed she turned down an offer to appear on the same series.

Speaking on The Jennifer Hudson Show this week, she said: “I was asked to be on the first Celebrity Traitors in the UK.

“My great buddy Nick Mohammed from Ted Lasso is on it and I nearly did because I knew he was going to be on it, but I’m a great big scaredy cat.

“This whole thing with the hoods and burying people alive – I don’t care whether there’s a crew there or not – hell no. No. No.

“I’m going to watch at home with a nice red wine and some crisps.”

Hosted by Winkleman, The Celebrity Traitors features 21 famous contestants who must seek out the traitors among them, who “kill off” players in the middle of the night.

The first series of the celebrity spin-off debuted last autumn and became a ratings winner for the broadcaster, with its nail-biting finale hitting a peak of 15.4 million viewers – the biggest TV audience of 2025.
