This City Is Ours season 2 ending and deaths explained

The second series of crime thriller This City is Ours has concluded on BBC iPlayer, and the finale brought multiple character deaths and a major twist involving new villain Felipe (Álvaro Morte).

Felipe's Fatal Scheme

In the opening of the finale, Felipe deliberately stabbed himself using Diana's (Hannah Onslow) blade. He lay in wait for Michael (James Nelson-Joyce) to discover him, revealing their long history. Felipe claimed Michael had murdered his partner, Luis, as a demonstration of allegiance to Felipe's brother, Ricardo (Daniel Cerqueira).

Felipe achieved his vengeance, though it proved fatal. While holding Diana captive, she expressed her determination to leave the criminal underworld. Intent on destroying the couple's prospects of a normal life, Felipe goaded Michael into committing an irredeemable act.

Before succumbing to his stab wound, Felipe warned Michael: "Welcome to winter," hinting at a bleak and isolated future. As Felipe intended, Diana began to realise she had no realistic chance of extracting Michael from his criminal world, and their relationship appeared to be ending.

Ozzie and Rachel's Deaths

New antagonist Ozzie (Shaun Evans) met his end at the series conclusion after it emerged he had exploited vulnerable teenager Freddie (Adam Abbou) into murdering Rachel Duffy (Laura Aikman). The Phelans sought vengeance for Rachel's killing, though Freddie ultimately surrendered himself to authorities.

Once it was revealed Ozzie had persuaded Freddie to carry the firearm that killed Rachel, numerous individuals wanted him dead. As members of the new Firm, Michael, Jamie (Jack McMullen), Bobby (Kevin Harvey), and Banksey (Mike Noble) executed Ozzie with four shots – a single bullet each.

Ronnie's Early Exit

Sean Bean's character Ronnie was killed off early in the series by Michael. While in Spain, Michael stabbed Ronnie at his mansion. Despite Diana's attempts to dissuade him, Michael showed no reluctance in attacking him.

The betrayal arose from Ronnie's earlier actions after he fatally shot Davey Crawford (Stephen Walters). Davey had revealed Jamie's clandestine drugs operation, and Ronnie murdered him fearing Michael would discover too much about Jamie's activities.

Davey's murder had never been intended, but it showed Michael that Ronnie would always favour his son. Understanding that Ronnie's choices would always favour Jamie, and recognising Jamie would be chosen as heir, Michael decided to eliminate Ronnie entirely.

This City is Ours is on BBC iPlayer, with episodes also airing weekly on BBC One on Sundays and Mondays.
