Despite fears of cancellation raised by former host Rosie O'Donnell, The View has seen a surge in ratings, according to recent data. O'Donnell had predicted the ABC talk show would be pulled off air following comments by the Donald Trump administration and FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, who warned of potential consequences over alleged liberal bias.
O'Donnell, in a TikTok post titled 'Silencing The View', claimed ABC was 'reviewing the liberal bias' as a precursor to cancellation. She described the US under Trump as 'a dictatorship with good lighting' and said the show was being targeted for allowing women to speak their opinions. However, the show's ratings have reportedly risen, contradicting the notion of decline.
The controversy stems from comments by co-host Joy Behar, who criticised Trump's claims about Barack Obama and referenced the January 6th Capitol attack. The White House responded by calling Behar an 'irrelevant loser' and suggesting the show could be next to be pulled off air. Despite this, The View remains a highly successful programme with strong viewership.
O'Donnell, who hosted the show twice, argued that the threat was about 'obedience' to Trumpism rather than bias. She urged the show not to fear cancellation and to continue fighting for First Amendment rights. The FCC's involvement has raised concerns about government overreach into media content.
