The Testaments, the highly anticipated sequel to The Handmaid's Tale, premieres on Disney+ on Wednesday, April 8. The series, adapted from Margaret Atwood's novel, is set four years after the fall of Boston and follows the conclusion of the original show after six seasons.
The 10-episode series will release three episodes on launch day, with subsequent episodes dropping weekly every Wednesday. Episode 8 is therefore expected to air on Wednesday, May 27, 2025, assuming no breaks in the schedule.
The Testaments boasts an entirely fresh cast and is described as a dramatic coming-of-age story centred on teenage girls. The synopsis teases: 'The series follows young teens Agnes, dutiful and pious, and Daisy, a new arrival and convert from beyond Gilead's borders. As they navigate the gilded halls of Aunt Lydia's elite preparatory school for future wives, a place where obedience is instilled brutally and always with divine justification, their bond becomes the catalyst that will upend their past, their present, and their future.'
Disney+ subscriptions start at £5.99 per month and include access to The Testaments, The Handmaid's Tale, and other titles from Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar. The new series has a more optimistic tone with vibrant visual storytelling, according to Disney.
