The Rookie returns to UK screens tonight, with season 8 premiering at 9pm on Tuesday 17 February 2026 on Sky Witness. New episodes will also be available weekly on NOW. UK viewers are about six weeks behind the US launch, which took place on 6 January, but this is a much faster turnaround than in previous years.
The new season kicks off with an episode set and filmed in Prague, Czech Republic. In the show, John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and Bailey Nune (Jenna Dewan) chaperone cooperating criminal Monica Stevens (Bridget Regan). Creator Alexi Hawley said the international shoot was rewarding, noting the show's global popularity: 'People came from other countries to set... they were three or four deep. Watching how passionate people were was really rewarding.'
Hawley hinted at a big season ahead: 'I think it might be our biggest season ever, just in terms of set pieces and action... Episode 3 is very intense. There's another episode or two down the road that are more horror than we've done before.' He also suggested future seasons could launch with international episodes, following the success of the Prague shoot.
The entire main cast returns, including Nathan Fillion, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T Jones, Mekia Cox, Shawn Ashmore, Jenna Dewan, Lisseth Chavez, Melissa O'Neil and Eric Winter. Deric Augustine has been promoted to series regular as Miles Penn, and Bridget Regan reprises her role as Monica Stevens, who secured immunity in the previous finale.
Hawley teased Monica's storyline: 'I think the immunity deal was her pulling it out of the fire... but there are other facets to that immunity deal which could play out in season 8.' On Lucy and Tim's relationship, after Lucy fell asleep before hearing Tim's moving-in question, Hawley said: 'That conversation should be had, ultimately... we're almost there.'
