The Pitt has bid farewell to one of its beloved doctors ahead of season three, leaving fans devastated. HBO Max's Emmy-winning medical drama concluded its 15-episode second season on Thursday night, but Variety broke the news that Supriya Ganesh, who has played senior resident Dr. Samira Mohan since season one, will not return for the new season, expected to premiere in January 2027.
According to sources, her exit was solely a story-driven decision. As Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center is a teaching hospital, it is normal for the establishment to have a revolving door of staff. Dr. Mohan's departure will not come as a complete surprise to viewers, as she spent much of season two questioning her future and applying to other residency programs. In her final scene, she had a heart-to-heart with Dr. Robbie (Noah Wyle), revealing she was considering a career in geriatrics.
Nevertheless, the news of her exit left many fans heartbroken. One person wrote on X: 'My heart sank. She didn't even get a lot of screen time in season 2.' Another added: 'The show will feel different without her… now I'm wondering how they are going to run season three without her.' A third said the show 'just lost its pulse.'
Separately, HBO Max confirmed that Ayesha Harris, who has appeared as senior night shift resident Dr. Parker Ellis in several episodes across both seasons, has been promoted to a series regular for season three. Harris is also known for roles in Daisy Jones and the Six, Glamorous, and Abbott Elementary.
The Pitt, which also stars E.R. alum Wyle, Katherine LaNasa, Taylor Dearden, and others, has become a major hit, winning five Emmys including Outstanding Drama Series. Wyle, who also serves as an executive producer, told The Independent: 'I'm committed, not only contractually, but also emotionally, to exploring this for several more seasons.'
