The Grand Tour will return on Friday, September 4, with new hosts Francis Bourgeois, James Engelsman, and Thomas Holland, Prime Video confirmed on July 14. The series, which originally premiered in 2016 with Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May, ended its original run in 2024 after 46 episodes and six series.
New Hosts Announced
In February, it was announced that TikTok trainspotter Francis Bourgeois and Throttle House YouTubers James Engelsman and Thomas Holland would take over as hosts to attract younger viewers. The new series will consist of six episodes featuring challenges in Angola, Malaysia, and California.
What to Expect
According to the synopsis, the trio will cross the Angolan desert in track cars, explore Malaysia’s car culture, and test cutting-edge performance cars in California. Francis Bourgeois said: "Since completing the filming of the series, I haven’t stopped replaying every moment in my head. It has made me laugh, made my heart race and my stomach turn…"
James Engelsman added: "We took on the West African Desert. We contended with fighter pilots. We even decided to challenge an entire nation's legal system by protesting from the mountain tops." Thomas Holland commented: "I figured someone would be there to hold our hand the whole time. Nope. We were on our own in some absolutely wild environments in very, VERY questionable cars."
Fan Reactions
On social media, fans expressed mixed but generally optimistic views. @thearjashshow said: "Throttle house folks are just fantastic and naturally witty! the new trio should have the soul of the og with their own signature feel to it. can't wait." @jdennis986 added: "Anyone who watches throttle house knows, this could be really good, obviously it's not gonna be like the og three but still should be very enjoyable." However, @oldaaannnnn commented: "Jeremy, Richard, and James were the ones who made The Grand Tour great. I hope the new hosts are at least half as good as they were."
