The Forsytes Season 2 Trailer: Steamy Drama 'Better Than Bridgerton'

A "lavish" period drama based on a best-selling novel has teased a first look at its second season. The Forsytes, which aired on Channel 5 last year, is a remake of the BBC edition from 1967-1969, based on John Galsworthy's beloved book series.

Cast and Setting

The series stars Coronation Street's Millie Gibson, Home and Away's Joshua Orpin, One Day's Eleanor Tomlinson, This Life's Jack Davenport, and Downton Abbey's Tuppence Middleton, alongside Francesca Annis and Jamie Flatters. Set in the late Victorian era, the steamy period drama explores familial rivalries and relationships as long-held secrets come to light.

Season 1 Recap

The first series, six episodes long, saw Soames Forsyte (Joshua Orpin) battling his cousin Jolyon (Danny) over control of the family firm. Meanwhile, Jolyon's step-daughter June (Justine Emma Moore) gains independence and rebels against societal expectations, and Soames begins courting Millie's character as she transforms into an ambitious wife.

Season 2 Trailer

The trailer for season two reveals Soames scheming to save the family's reputation as his wife Irene vows to abandon her dreams to become a better wife. More secrets emerge after Jolyon left his wife to be with his first love Louisa, discovering she had two of his children from their past romance. Outlander star Richard Rankin, Sarah Alexander, and Nia Ashi join the cast, as Soames teases that "a new era dawns."

Fan Reactions

Viewers were hooked on the first series. One wrote: "Why is no-one talking about this show? It's perfect for Bridgerton lovers. Dare I say even better?" Another said: "My new obsession - love a good old period drama, especially at this time of year & this one is right up my street!" One fan hailed it: "A compelling and emotionally engaging series that is definitely worth watching."

Season 3 Renewal

It has been confirmed that a third season of The Forsytes has already been renewed, according to Deadline. Filming is expected to begin soon in the UK and Europe.

Behind the Scenes

Screenwriter Debbie Horsfield described it as an "honour to be asked to write a bold new reimagining of Galsworthy's epic saga." She added: "Our show is in part a prequel to the events of the first book, but also an opportunity to expand the world and place the women of the family centre stage. It's a love letter to the original story while offering an exciting new perspective." Susanne Simpson, Executive Producer of Masterpiece, said: "This sweeping, romantic drama portrays how duty binds a family together until it conflicts with matters of the heart. Debbie Horsfield's inspired scripts will be realised by an exceptional cast and supported by a lavish production."

The Forsytes is available to watch on Channel 5.
