The Chase's Greatest Chaser Revealed for 16th Anniversary

The Chase, one of the UK's most successful game shows, is celebrating 16 years since it first aired, and the greatest Chaser of all time has been revealed. Hosted by Bradley Walsh, the ITV show pits contestants against professional quizzers as they strive to answer enough questions to reach the end without being caught by the Chaser.

Anne Hegerty Tops the Rankings

Research conducted by Betway has determined that Anne Hegerty, known as The Governess, is the greatest Chaser of all time. Her impressive record includes 506 appearances, an accuracy rate of 84.9%, and a win rate of 79.8%. On average, a contestant facing Anne needs a target of 19.5 to have a chance, and she answers an average of 12.91 questions during the 60-second final round.

Other Top Chasers

Mark Labbett, also known as The Beat, comes in second place. He has participated in 515 rounds, requiring contestants to average 20 to beat him, with a Chaser accuracy of 83.20% and a win rate of 75.7%. Paul Sinha, The Sinnerman, ranks third, having appeared in 476 shows. Contestants need an average of 19.4 to beat him, and he has an accuracy of 84.9% and a win rate of 78.6%. Although Anne was ranked top, Paul earned the most money at £19,096.

History of The Chase

The Chase first aired in 2010. The current team of six Chasers includes Mark Labbett and Shaun Wallace, who have been with the show since the start; Anne Hegerty, who joined in series two; Paul Sinha, who joined in series four; Jenny Ryan, who joined in series nine; and Darragh Ennis, who joined in series 13. Only one Chaser appears per episode. A team of four contestants each tries to add money to their prize pot while the Chaser attempts to catch them by correctly answering questions they missed.

The show has been nominated for a National Television Award seven times and won in four separate years. It also won a BAFTA for best daytime show.

Jenny Ryan's New Show

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Jenny Ryan, who came fourth in Betway's research, will star in a new game show called The Box, fronted by Gary Lineker. The show features 10 well-known faces dropped at a mystery location to complete a challenge. Participants include JLS star JB Gill, Jenny Ryan, Dragon's Den's Sara Davies, Love Island's Shakira Khan, Joey Essex, politician John Bercow, Ranvir Singh, Graeme Souness, Danny Aarons, and Ellie Taylor. The show was filmed in 2025 and is set to air later this year, originally scheduled for April but postponed for Celebrity Sabotage.

Research was carried out on behalf of Betway in April 2026.
