Viewers of ITV's The Chase expressed outrage after contestant Deanne accepted a minus offer of £1,000, reducing the team's jackpot, yet still won a share of the prize in the Final Chase. Host Bradley Walsh, 58, welcomed four contestants, with the first two securing £10,000. Deanne then faced Chaser Paul Sinha, 49, and opted for the lower offer, taking £1,000 from the prize fund.
Despite her teammates' displeasure, Deanne returned for the Final Chase, where the team won £3,000 each. Viewers took to Twitter to vent, with one writing: 'Noooooooo!! So annoying when people pick the minus offer.' Another said: 'Deanne didn’t deserve a penny. Nothing annoys me more than people who go low.' A third added: 'When you take the minus and don’t answer a single question you should be taken outside and put on a bus with no money.'
However, some defended Deanne, noting she contributed steps in the Final Chase. One supporter tweeted: 'Deanne answered a couple of questions and added a step, without her they wouldn’t have got there.' Another said: 'the Sinnerman really could’ve squeezed an answer in last second, which would mean that Deanne was the extra step needed.'
Earlier in the week, host Bradley Walsh issued a warning to Chaser Shaun Wallace, 59, after he taunted a contestant during a shootout. Shaun remarked, 'I’m going to knock him out,' prompting Bradley to reply, 'Alright, settle down!'
