The fifth and final season of The Boys has concluded with a dramatic and emotional finale, now streaming on Prime Video. The episode, titled 'Blood and Bone', resolves the fates of the show's central characters, including the long-awaited downfall of Homelander.
In the finale, Kimiko, empowered by radiation exposure that grants her the ability to strip superheroes of their powers, confronts Homelander in the Oval Office. She successfully removes his abilities, along with those of Ryan and Butcher. Reduced to an ordinary human, Homelander is killed by Butcher in front of a global audience.
Butcher, however, remains convinced that Homelander's death alone will not dismantle Vought. He attempts to release a supe-killing virus through the White House sprinkler system but hesitates upon seeing Hughie. In a tragic turn, Hughie shoots Butcher, ending his life.
Other key moments include the death of Butcher's dog Terror, who passes peacefully in his sleep, and the reinstatement of Singer as President. Kimiko travels to France in tribute to Frenchie, while Hughie and Starlight discover they are expecting a daughter, whom they plan to name after Hughie's girlfriend killed by A-Train in the first episode.
The season has attracted over 55 million viewers, making it the most-watched to date, though it has faced criticism for 'filler' episodes. Showrunner Eric Kripke defended the pacing, stating that character development is essential for the finale's impact.
