Sweet Magnolias season five has arrived, bringing new arrivals and familiar faces to Netflix. It has been over a year since subscribers last visited Serenity, but the wait ended on Thursday, June 11, when the series returned. As always, the small-town residents face new business ventures and relationship dramas.
Main Cast Returns
The three Magnolias are back: Maddie Townsend (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Helen (Heather Headley), and Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott). Maddie is busy with her new job in New York, Helen is planning her wedding, and Dana Sue deals with marital issues. They are joined by Maddie's husband Cal (Justin Bruening), Helen's fiancé Erik (Dion Johnstone), and Dana Sue's husband Ronnie (Brandon Quinn).
Cal takes care of the family while Maddie is in New York, Erik faces personal challenges before the wedding, and Ronnie focuses on launching his new business. Elsewhere, Kyle (Logan Allen) and Lily (Artemis) rehearse for a Shakespearean play, and Isaac (Chris Medlin) plans a big surprise for his new boyfriend Michael (Kyle Findley). Dana Sue's daughter Annie (Annaliese Judge) seeks a fresh start after her split from Ty and prepares for college. Other recurring cast members include Jamie-Lynn Spears as Noreen, Chase Anderson as Jeremy, and Brittany L Smith as Mayor Peggy Martin.
Fan-Favourite Ty Townsend Missing
Unfortunately, fan-favourite Ty Townsend, played by Carson Rowland, is not in season five. At the end of season four, Ty left Serenity to pursue a European tour with his band.
