Amazon Prime Video's The Summer I Turned Pretty has reached the midpoint of its final season, and it appears that Belly (Lola Tung) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) are set to marry, despite his sub-standard proposal leaving fans fuming, reports the Mirror.
In the novels, Belly ultimately chooses Conrad (Christopher Briney) after he confesses his love. Jeremiah discovers the truth, and the brothers clash. Conrad persuades Jeremiah to return to Belly and encourages them to marry, but Jeremiah questions Belly about her lingering feelings for Conrad. Belly admits Conrad will always hold a part of her heart, ending their relationship. Jeremiah leaves town, paving the way for Belly and Conrad to reunite and marry years later, with Jeremiah in attendance with a date.
It remains uncertain whether the television series will follow this narrative exactly, as changes have been made, including to Belly's birthday. Co-showrunner and author Han hinted to Vanity Fair: 'There are moments that the readers have been really looking forward to—so I wanted to be the one to do it.' Lead actress Tung said: 'I’ve always felt with Belly: I’m going to make a decision, and it might not always be the right decision, but at least it’s mine.'
Fans can anticipate an emotional rollercoaster, with star Briney previously hinting: 'S*** will hit the fan. Don't worry, guys.' The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 episodes air on Prime Video on Wednesdays.
