Strictly's Shaun Wright-Phillips eliminated as triple dance-off twist revealed
Strictly's Wright-Phillips out as triple dance-off twist revealed

Former England footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips has been voted off Strictly Come Dancing, and the show's bosses have announced a change to next week's dance-off format. The ex-Chelsea and Manchester City star and his professional partner Alexis Warr had been at the bottom of the leaderboard on Saturday night with 17 points.

They failed to turn things around in the dance-off against Jaime Winstone and her partner Carlos Gu, who finished in the bottom two after the public vote despite scoring 25 for their dance on Saturday's episode of the BBC show.

First-Ever Triple Dance-Off Announced

Sunday's results also saw the surprise announcement of Strictly's first-ever triple dance-off, which will take place during next weekend's Halloween episode. The three couples with the lowest combined judges' scores and public votes will dance again next week, before the judges eliminate one pair.

The triple dance-off was announced by host Emma Willis during a conversation with the judges on the show. Craig Revel-Horwood joked that for the first time in 22 years, he's excited to vote for who he wants to leave rather than save.

Wright-Phillips' Farewell

Shaun said: "I don't think I can put into words how my time has been, from the pros, judges, staff behind the cameras, everyone who's helped me along the way."

The results episode saw Wright-Phillips and Warr reprise their jive to Faith by Stevie Wonder featuring Ariana Grande, and Winstone and Gu perform their foxtrot to Man I Need by Olivia Dean again. Judges Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse voted to save Jaime, but head judge Shirley Ballas voted for Shaun, leaving Du Beke, who had this week's casting vote, to decide who remained on the show.

Leaderboard Highlights

On Saturday's leaderboard, Jaime finished above former Love Island star Cach Mercer and his professional partner Maddie Ingoldsby, who scored 24, and Emmerdale star Lawrence Robb and Jowita Przystal, who scored just 19 on Saturday.

This week's live show also saw Australian singer Delta Goodrem return from her rib injury to score the first 10 of the series with her rumba to Celine Dion's It's All Coming Back To Me Now with professional partner Kai Widdrington, which scored 34.

Winter Olympic champion Tabby Stoecker topped the leaderboard on Saturday, following Goodrem by scoring two 10s for her couple's choice dance to Stupid Song by Olivia Rodrigo, finishing with a total score of 37, the highest of the series so far. Her performance with professional partner Mark Karmalita was dedicated to her late father, and she appeared emotional after the dance, with judge Shirley Ballas praising her as a "beautiful dancer" and calling the performance "absolutely exquisite".

Sunday's results also saw Spice Girls star Melanie C join the Strictly professional dancers for a fitness-inspired group dance.

The remaining couples will return to the dancefloor next week at 6.30 pm on BBC One on Saturday, October 31, for Strictly's Halloween special. All episodes of the 2026 series so far are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
