Strictly Come Dancing viewers expressed frustration on Saturday night, accusing judges of inflating scores for several contestants during the show's sixth week. The BBC programme saw Wynne Evans and JB Gill receive scores of 31 and 32 respectively, sparking backlash on social media.
Wynne Evans and Katya Jones performed a Salsa to Jamiroquai's 'Canned Heat', earning 31 points, while JB Gill and Amy Dowden scored 32 for their Foxtrot to 'Dancing in the Moonlight'. Critics argued these marks were too generous, with one viewer tweeting: 'Wynne well overmarked IMHO It was more 25 or 26 and definitely not a 31.'
Another fan wrote: 'The scoring this year has been all over the place, specifically for the men... They are all overmarked every single week.' A third added: 'Both JB and Wynne were massively massively overmarked. Way way too much messing around and losing all technical aspects. An absolute joke.'
Despite his higher score, JB Gill found himself in the dance-off for the second time in two weeks. Reflecting on the experience, he told It Takes Two: 'I mean we got 30! So it wasn't like we got a shammy score!... It's always a little bit disheartening.' He acknowledged the high standard of competition this year.
The controversy follows last week's elimination of Paul Merson, who was saved by judges over JB Gill. Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday on BBC One from 6:25pm, with viewers awaiting Sunday's results show to see if JB avoids elimination again.
