Strictly star Lawrence Robb admits preparing for dance-off

Emmerdale actor Lawrence Robb has admitted he was mentally preparing for the dance-off after a "tough" Strictly Come Dancing performance last weekend. The Scottish star and his professional partner Jowita Przystał scored just 19 points for their jive to a mash-up of Fatboy Slim's The Rockafeller Skank and The Knack's My Sharona.

Judges' verdict on the jive

The judges' comments were far from glowing. Craig Revel Horwood said the routine "wasn't for me" and labelled it "flat-footed and out-of-time". Shirley Ballas observed: "You can't be making too many mistakes, but some good things in there, so be proud."

On Friday (October 30), Lawrence appeared on It Takes Two and chatted with presenter Ellie Taylor about the routine. She remarked: "Lawrence, it was a tough night for you." He responded: "It was yes," as Ellie went on: "Now you've had some space to sort of think about it. How do you reflect back on it?"

Learning from mistakes

He explained: "Every week is a new week, I think, and, you know, you learn from mistakes, I definitely did make a mistake. At the beginning. But, you know, every dance, I've really enjoyed performing, and I think that that's the main thing of why I'm doing it. I'd like to think that anyway, it's just the love of performing and to have fun doing it and just keep reminding myself of that".

Ellie also said: "Was it just a bad day at the office?" Lawrence quipped: "Let's hope so!" Ellie then highlighted how Lawrence finished second-to-last on the judges' leaderboard and asked him: "Were you sort of mentally preparing for the dance-off?"

Fans call marks 'ridiculously harsh'

Making a sad admission, Lawrence replied: "Yes. 100%. I think if you're in that position, you can't not. I was mentally, you know, setting up to be, like, right, I'm doing it again."

Viewers last weekend expressed their disappointment over Lawrence's marks, arguing they were "ridiculously harsh". On X, one individual wrote: "Just me that didn't think Lawrence was THAT bad? ?". Another posted: "That was ridiculously harsh on Lawrence." A third questioned: "I genuinely didn't see that mistake Lawrence did? Am I blind?".

However, a different Strictly audience member wrote: "100% respect that Lawrence is really trying and giving his all. That jive wasn't great though - it's fitting the clocks are going back tonight because his kicks and flicks were in a different time zone to Jowita's." Strictly Come Dancing airs every weekend on BBC One and iPlayer.
