Former Strictly Come Dancing professional Vincent Simone has criticised host Josh Widdicombe's jokes, while judge Anton Du Beke has hinted that a star may be ready to leave the BBC show, dealing a blow to the new presenting trio.
Vincent Simone's Criticism of Josh Widdicombe
In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk on behalf of Paddy Power, Simone said of Widdicombe: "I like Josh's little comments and little jokes. They could be funnier, to be honest, because I expect him to be. If I had to have a little criticism, it's before they announce the next couple, whatever lines or jokes they make. I think that could be improved."
He added: "Back in my days, we had Bruce Forsyth making jokes before the couple started, and they were a bit funnier. I think that's the only thing I would say: those jokes could be made a bit funnier."
Simone Defends the New Hosting Trio
However, Simone stopped short of calling for the trio to be replaced, saying: "They do work really well. I'm watching the show now, and you've almost made peace with it. They're very good on their own, so I don't think we need to compare them to the previous ones. I think we've passed that stage. That's back in time now. No comparison. What's the point?"
He continued: "They do work really well. It takes a bit of time for the change in anything in life, really, but I think they're doing a good job. I feel for them because they have a massive job on their hands."
Anton Du Beke Hints at a Departure
Simone's comments follow remarks from Anton Du Beke, who suggested a big name is ready to leave the show, saying "It's getting a bit much." According to the Mirror, speaking on stage in Bath, the 60-year-old said: "I spoke to somebody the other day and they were like 'It's getting a bit much'.
"It's somebody who's been on it not that long, a little while, and I understood that. I thought about it for a while and I wondered if they will be on it or whether they will decide to step away or carry on."
It is unclear who Du Beke was referring to, as it could include presenters, dancers, or judges. The new presenting trio, Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe, and Johannes Radebe, have divided fans since taking over from seasoned hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, with viewing figures declining this year.
