Strictly Come Dancing fans took to social media to demand "justice" for Cach Mercer after judges gave him a harsh response to his latest routine, leaving them baffled. The former Love Island contestant and his professional partner Maddie Ingoldsby performed a waltz to "That Ain't You" by Mulaa Joans during week seven of the BBC One dance contest on Saturday, November 7.
Week Seven Highlights and Scores
The night saw the remaining couples compete after last weekend's Halloween special, which featured the show's first-ever triple dance-off. At the start of the show, presenters Josh Widdicombe and Emma Willis addressed the absence of Jaime Winstone, who suffered a torn abdominal muscle and was ruled out of the live show. Widdicombe explained that under competition rules, Jaime received a bye through to next week, while Willis sent her love and hopes for a speedy recovery.
Dani Dyer topped the leaderboard after scoring her first 10 of the series with her partner Nikita Kuzmin. Their American smooth to "It Had to Be You" by Harry Connick Jr earned 36 points, with head judge Shirley Ballas saying they did "exceptionally well" and standing to applaud them.
Bottom of the Leaderboard
At the foot of the table, John Nellis and Katya Jones, and Cach and Maddie, were tied on 26 points. John and Katya performed the salsa to "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk, with Motsi Mabuse saying she "loved the choreography," while Craig Revel Horwood described it as "like a three-year-old having a tantrum." For Cach and Maddie's waltz, Motsi called it "elegant," but Shirley said it featured "way too many foot errors," adding: "Some parts are getting better, some need a bit more work."
Fans flocked to social media to express their frustration. @Kendal_ said: "Cach gets torn apart all the time and I'm sick of it. #Strictly." @__Anastazia__ commented: "A 4 for Cach is nuts #strictly." @ccj_ruby1_dancer wrote: "It feels like the judges are doing a bit with their scoring now and it's boring. A 4?!? Absolutely no way?" @itsliswithas posted: "Absolutly LOVE this couple .. Maddie is new & doing her best Cach is a fab natural dancer … something doesn't add up.. why the judges need to be so harsh with their words..anyway my 5 votes have been for Cach & Maddie."
Other fans echoed the sentiment, with @graciouskanny sharing: "Justice for @maddieingoldsby & @cacherel_ Enough already." @mark.ellsn echoed: "Justice for Cach." @RyanSoapKing25 added: "A 4 for Cach from Craig was brutal WOW! Cach bottom of the leaderboard WOW! Didn't see that one coming #Strictly."
The couples will return next week, with Jaime Winstone expected to rejoin the competition after her bye.
