Strictly 2025 Start Date Confirmed as BBC Denies Format Changes

Strictly Come Dancing will return for its 2025 series on September 20, with the BBC officially confirming the launch date. This year's lineup includes Vicky Pattison, George Clarke, Dani Dyer, Karen Carney, La Voix, and Stefan Dennis, alongside all returning professional dancers and two new pros, Alexis Warr and Julian Caillon.

Reports had suggested that producers were planning a 'switch-up week' where celebrities would dance with a different professional partner for one show. However, a BBC spokesperson told Metro that the story 'isn't true', disappointing fans who had hoped for a format change.

The rumour had sparked excitement among viewers, with some suggesting it could allow for same-sex pairings. TikTok user @strictlypoppy said she was 'excited' by the possibility, while others commented that they would prefer it over 'another boring themed week'. The idea would have mirrored formats used in the American and Irish versions of the show.

The lead-up to the 2025 series has been overshadowed by controversy. An internal investigation into former professional dancers Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima found that Pernice verbally abused and harassed his partner Amanda Abbington, while Di Prima admitted to kicking Zara McDermott during training. Additionally, 2024 contestant Wynne Evans was removed from the Live Tour over complaints of inappropriate behaviour.

More recently, the Met Police confirmed they are investigating allegations that two stars used cocaine, with one also suspected of drinking while on the show. A TV insider said the scandal presents a 'major problem' for the family entertainment show, raising concerns about workplace policies and behaviour.
