Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 1 Ending: Will Byers Develops Powers, Dr Kay Holds Kali Prisoner

The first volume of Stranger Things season 5 has concluded with a stunning twist, revealing that Will Byers has developed powers similar to Eleven's. In the final scene of episode 4, Will uses his connection to Vecna to stop a swarm of Demogorgons, causing his nose to bleed in the same way Eleven's does when she uses her abilities. This marks a significant shift for the character, who has been connected to Vecna since his disappearance in season 1.

Throughout the volume, Will has strengthened his bond with the Demogorgons, seeing through their eyes and feeling their emotions. With help from Robin, he learns to control them, culminating in a montage of his happiest memories that empowers him to halt the creatures' attack. Co-creator Ross Duffer explained that the idea was to have Will harness this connection against the villains, bringing the story full circle from his abduction in season 1.

Meanwhile, a parallel plot reveals that Dr Kay, played by Linda Hamilton, is holding Kali (also known as Eight) prisoner in the Upside Down. Kali, introduced in season 2, has psychic powers that allow her to warp perception. Dr Kay appears to be using Kali to create a substance that neutralises Eleven's abilities, mistakenly believing Eleven has kidnapped Holly Wheeler and other children.

The volume ends with Vecna paralysing Will and taunting him, but Will fights back, suggesting he may be the key to defeating Vecna. If Will can control the Demogorgons, he could turn them against their master, potentially ending the threat to Hawkins once and for all.
