ITV game show The Fortune Hotel, hosted by Stephen Mangan, is reportedly at risk of being cancelled due to its high production costs. The show, which features contestants competing for a £250,000 prize in Grenada, recently concluded its second series.
A TV insider told The Sun that the significant financial outlay required to produce the show makes a third series unlikely unless a more cost-effective approach can be found. 'When you’re paying millions to launch a programme, it really needs to get the viewing figures to get any kind of return on the investment,' the source said.
However, an ITV spokeswoman stated that discussions about the show's future are ongoing. 'Another series hasn’t been confirmed at this stage, and talks are still underway regarding the show’s future,' she said, noting that both series are available on ITVX and that the second series received 4.4 million streams in August.
The Fortune Hotel first aired in 2024, featuring 10 pairs of contestants staying at a luxury hotel. Each pair received a briefcase, with eight empty, one containing an early check-out card leading to elimination, and one containing the £250,000 jackpot. Contestants competed in tasks to locate the prize by swapping briefcases.
Jo-Anne and Will won the first series, while Neil and Tope won the second. In July, Mangan hinted that a third series might be filmed in a new location, saying, 'I think if it goes again, we'll go to other parts of the world.'
