Wednesday season 2 has arrived on Netflix, bringing with it a significant casting change: the role of Lurch, the Addams Family butler, has been recast. Finnish actor and former basketball player Joonas Suotamo, best known for portraying Chewbacca in the Star Wars saga, will now play the towering, gloomy servant.
Suotamo, who stands at 6 feet 11 inches, replaces George Burcea, who played Lurch in season 1. Burcea announced his departure on Instagram, citing personal reasons for not returning. Suotamo's height makes season 2's Lurch considerably taller than Burcea's 6-foot-3-inch portrayal.
Suotamo took over the role of Chewbacca from Peter Mayhew in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and continued in subsequent films. He also appeared as Kelnacca in the 2024 series The Acolyte. Lurch, known for his minimal dialogue and expressive face, is a key member of the Addams Family household.
Wednesday season 2 is now streaming on Netflix. The series continues to follow Wednesday Addams as she navigates life at Nevermore Academy.
