Upcoming heist film Crime 101, starring Chris Hemsworth as a high-profile thief, has debuted with a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes ahead of its cinema release. The film, directed by Bart Layton, is based on the 2020 novella by Don Winslow and follows a jewel thief involved in a series of heists along the 101 freeway.
Hemsworth plays Mike Davis, a notorious thief pursued by Detective Lou Lubesnick (Mark Ruffalo). Mike approaches insurance broker Sharon Colvin (Halle Berry) with a business proposition, unaware of his criminal activities. Intrigued by his lifestyle, Sharon eventually teams up with Mike to steal luxury jewels insured by her company.
The cast also includes Barry Keoghan as Ormon, a thug sent to hunt Mike down, and Monica Barbaro as Maya, with Jennifer Jason Leigh, Nick Nolte, Corey Hawkins, and Tate Donovan in supporting roles.
Crime 101 initially scored 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, though it has since dropped to 88%. Critics have praised the film as 'impressive' and 'sublime', with Empire calling it a 'slick cinematic thriller'. However, some reviewers noted its derivative nature, with the Associated Press questioning whether a movie can 'cosplay another movie'.
