Sky News Presenter Darren McCaffrey Quits Live On Air, Emigrates to Canada

Sky News presenter Darren McCaffrey announced his departure live on air during Saturday morning's broadcast, revealing he is moving to Toronto, Canada. McCaffrey, who first joined the broadcaster in 2009, left for GB News in 2018 before returning last year.

Speaking on the Politics Hub, he said: 'This is my last time presenting the Politics Hub. I know, and what a busy time in politics it has been... It certainly has not been quiet.' He added: 'I'm moving to Canada, to Toronto, in a few weeks. Thank you for watching. Thanks to everyone here at Sky News.'

The programme then aired footage from his debut report 15 years ago. McCaffrey later shared the clip on Instagram, writing: 'WELL THAT REALLY IS THAT... My FIRST and LAST broadcast on @SkyNews 15 years apart - frankly more than a little embarrassing in so many ways...'

He also posted a photo of leaving drinks with colleagues, captioning it: 'Going to miss these guys...' Supporters sent well-wishes, with comments such as 'Congratulations Darren! May the Canadian chapter be fabulous' and 'Best of luck with what comes next.'

McCaffrey had previously announced his move on social media earlier this year, stating: 'I'm bouncing out of Britain... I'm going to be moving to Canada. To Toronto... it's really exciting but a little bit daunting as well. I'm not entirely sure what I am going to do for work.'
