The Simpsons' latest Halloween special, Treehouse of Horror XXXVII, accidentally featured a link to a pornographic website after an internet prankster purchased an unregistered domain name shown in the episode.
The episode aired on October 25 and includes a scene where Bart and Lisa visit the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) while searching for Homer. In one establishing shot, a sign outside the building reads 'our-website-is-broken.org', intended as a joke about the inefficiencies of the DMV and the US government.
Prankster Buys Unregistered Domain
However, the domain was not registered by the show's producers, and an anonymous prankster bought the URL, setting up a website that linked to Simpsons-themed porn. The site featured an animated topless image of Marge Simpson's sisters, Patty and Selma. Clicking the image played a remix of 'Who Let The Barts Out?' and a montage of more Simpsons porn.
The link has since been deactivated, but users on X (formerly Twitter) have been joking about the mistake. One user, @GibGibGuyGuy, asked: 'Why in the hell is this in a REAL Simpsons episode?' Another, @TSwanyIRL, advised: 'Always, always, ALWAYS pre-register a web domain before you put it on TV.'
Reaction and Aftermath
Other users shared their surprise, with @j_drain joking: 'I don't know what I was expecting to see going there, but I certainly wasn't expecting that lol.'
Metro has approached Disney for comment.
