Si King, one half of the beloved Hairy Bikers duo, is set to honour his late best friend Dave Myers in a special one-off BBC documentary titled The Hairy Bikers: You’ll Never Ride Alone. The programme will air on BBC Two and commemorates their 25-year friendship and television partnership that transformed cookery shows.
In the documentary, Si will revisit key moments from their careers, using archive footage, new interviews, and previously unseen material to celebrate Dave’s life. The film follows the emotional 'Dave Day' in June, when over 45,000 motorcyclists joined Si on a memorial ride from London to Dave’s hometown of Barrow-in-Furness, following Dave’s death from cancer in February at age 66.
Si described the experience as 'incredibly proud' and a tribute to his best mate. He said of Dave Day: 'It just felt so celebratory of Dave’s life... I just couldn’t believe the scale of the event.' He noted the outpouring of support from the motorcycle community and the public, calling it 'a remarkable collective, emotional tsunami of kindness and love.'
The documentary was commissioned by Catherine Catton, Head of Commissioning, Factual Entertainment and Events, with Jasmyn McGuile as Commissioning Editor. Executive Producers are Andrew Mackenzie and Melanie Leach, produced by South Shore for BBC Two.
Si reflected on the support since Dave’s passing, saying: 'People have been incredibly supportive, and people want me to carry on, as Dave did too.' He added that the ride was his last as a Hairy Biker, closing a chapter on 25 years of memories with his 'biking brother.'
