Bridgerton Producer Hints at Lady Violet Spin-Off

Shonda Rhimes, executive producer of the hit Netflix series Bridgerton, has suggested that Lady Violet Bridgerton could be the next character to receive her own spin-off. In a podcast interview with Craig Melvin, Rhimes stated: “I’ve always said that I thought if we were going to do something like that, Violet would be a great person to tell the story about,” calling it “a possibility”.

Lady Violet, played by Ruth Gemmell, is the matriarch of the Bridgerton family and has appeared in all four seasons of the period drama. The latest season saw the widow become engaged to Lord Anderson, portrayed by Daniel Francis. The show, based on Julia Quinn’s novels, has already spawned a successful spin-off, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, which aired in 2023.

Earlier this year, showrunner Jess Brownell dismissed speculation that the series would recast key roles from the first two seasons, such as Regé-Jean Page’s Duke of Hastings and Phoebe Dynevor’s Daphne. Brownell told Variety: “We are not interested in recasting the characters. I think it would be a disservice to everything Regé and Phoebe set up in season one.”

Since leaving Bridgerton, Page has appeared in films like Black Bag and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, while Dynevor starred in Fair Play. Brownell noted that the door remains open for their return, but only when there is “something really meaty” for them.
