Fans of the beloved medical comedy Scrubs were finally given a glimpse of its return this week, with the release of the long-awaited trailer for a tenth season, a full 15 years after the show's iconic 2010 finale.
A Nostalgic Return to Sacred Heart
The teaser, released on Tuesday, immediately hits viewers with a wave of nostalgia. It features the original trio of JD (Zach Braff), Chris Turk (Donald Faison), and Elliot Reid (Sarah Chalke) striding purposefully down a familiar hospital corridor in their scrubs. Braff's JD doesn't miss a beat, boldly declaring to the camera, 'I'm back, baby!'
The scene then shifts to introduce a host of new, younger characters who are seen questioning the identity of the legendary medics. In a classic JD moment, he strikes a pose and says, 'It's good to be back,' before telling Turk to try the heroic stance himself.
Mixed Reactions from a Devoted Fanbase
Following the trailer's debut, the fan response was sharply divided. While many are ecstatic, a significant portion of the audience expressed scepticism, believing the original series was perfect and should have been left untouched.
One fan commented on the risk of reviving a classic, writing, 'I'm not going to hold my breath on this one, I hope it's good, but reboots usually aren't. Idk if the humour will translate in this era, nostalgia alone isn't enough!'
Others echoed the sentiment that the show's initial run, culminating in what many consider one of the best sitcom finales ever, was a complete story that didn't need extending.
However, not all reactions were cautious. A great many fans had their appetites thoroughly whetted by the teaser. Their excitement was palpable online, with comments such as, 'This is going to be awesome!!!! One of my favourite shows all-time,' and 'No freaking way. Dude. I rewatch Scrubs in its entirety once every year or so. I really hope this captures the magic of the original.'
Production Details and UK Release
The journey to bring Scrubs back to screens wasn't without its hurdles. Zach Braff's return as JD was confirmed earlier this year, but negotiations reportedly hit a major snag over filming location. Producers initially wanted to shoot in Vancouver, Canada, to cut costs, but Braff insisted on keeping the production in Los Angeles, where the first eight seasons were filmed at a decommissioned hospital in North Hollywood.
A compromise was eventually reached, though the revival will ultimately be filmed in Canada. The official synopsis for the new season promises that 'JD and Turk scrub in together for the first time in a long time,' navigating a changed medical world at Sacred Heart with their bromance intact, alongside both new and old characters.
Scrubs season 10 will be available to stream on Hulu and ABC in the US from February 2026. For fans in the UK, the new episodes will debut on Disney+ from the same date.
